Regicide

Description

Regicide is the first private cask release from Louis Duckett.

Back in late 2016 to early 2017 Louis bought two 100L heavy char sherry casks from SA Cooperage. One cask went to Adams Distillery to be filled with unpeated spirit while the other made it’s way to Old Kempton. Once filled they made their way back to Heartwood Bondstore where they sat peacefully until 2019. One day Louis checked in on the barrels to see how they were tracking and everything tasted brilliant and they were on track to be two stunning individual releases. Two months later he went back and to check on the barrels and noticed that the barrel filled with Old Kempton spirit had remarkably less volume than the last time. Looking at the side of the barrel Louis noticed a massive crack in one of the staves. In 2 months he had lost around 20-30L of whisky. In a panic he did a test blend in a ratio of what he roughly had left. It tasted good enough so he blended them into a vat and set about trying to figure out his next move. After a couple of months Louis managed to get his hands on a beautiful Bourbon Rum cask from Transwood cooperage where the whisky finished off its maturation.

The name Regicide, is a  jab at Tim Duckett, as Louis takes a more active roll in the whisky world and attempts to overtake his father.

This was the censored version of this story. In reality there was a lot more panic and and swearing. Not to say this was a direct cause but Louis did have a full head of hair when he first started maturing this whisky, and very much doesn’t now.
